Vihuela (Vihuela de Mano)

The Vihuela da Mano is a fretted plucked Spanish string instrument, commonly shaped in a figure-of-eight form but tuned like a lute. It was used in 15th- and 16th-century and has a large resultant repertory.

The vihuela was enormously popular and iconographic evidence abounds, but we know almost nothing of what the actual playing instruments were like. Therefore it is up to the maker to determine what works, including proportions, materials and internal structure. I currently build a flat back vihuela based on my research and study of information available in iconography and historical documentation. Resulting in an instrument with shape and proportions that are pleasing to the eye.

Beautifully finished using french polishing techniques. My vihuelas are made using the best available materials. Intended for amatuer and professional musicians who require playability and sound quality first and foremost, consequently I do not offer various levels or types such as "student model". Variations to my design will be considered upon customer enquiry.
